Happy Groundhog Day!!

I love celebrating. Birthdays, holidays, acing a test (or just surviving a test), Fridays, Wednesdays, Sundays, seasons, new months, etc. I think that every day has something to be celebrated. By that I don't necessarily mean throwing a huge party. Sometimes a celebration can be a 2 minute dance party, or a 15 minute nap. However you celebrate- do it often. Today we are all celebrating a random, pointless, and completely wonderful holiday. Here is the official groundhog day decree...

On this February 2nd, 2013,
the One Hundred and Twenty Seventh Annual Trek of the
Punxsutawney Groundhog Club at Gobbler’s Knob….
Punxsutawney Phil, the King of the Groundhogs,
Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of Prognosticators,
Weather Prophet without Peer,
was awakened from his borrow at 7:28 am
with a tap of the President’s cane.
Phil and President Deeley conversed in Groundhogese
and Phil directed him to the chosen Prognostication scroll.
The President tapped the chosen scroll and
directed Phil’s Prediction be proclaimed:
My new Knob entrance is a sight to behold
Like my faithful followers, strong and bold
And so ye faithful,
there is no shadow to see
An early Spring for you and me.
Isn't Punxsutawney Phil adorable?!?!
For some reason I have ALWAYS loved groundhog day. Maybe because it's the first 'sign' that spring is around the corner. Or perhaps all of the fun crafts we did in elementary school (I plan to continue those crafts in my future classroom)
It might just be the fact that we enjoy letting a cute furball predict the weather. Whatever the reason, I think it's silly and ridiculous. Therefore, I love it:) So, go ahead- celebrate the silliness. And prepare for an early spring.
